Kanye West will make his return to New York Fashion Week this season, showing his Yeezy Season 5 collection on Wednesday, February 15th at 5pm.
Taking a more traditional venue, unlike his usual over-the-top and unique locations (Yeezy 4 in Roosevelt Island and the Yeezy Season 3 show at Madison Square Garden for a combined concert and show), the rapper will be showing Yeezy Season 5 at Pier 59 Studios.
This season’s Yeezy show will present at the same time as both the Marchesa and Assembly shows, following the Anna Sui runway and immediately prior to the Thom Browne show. This isn’t the first time that West’s show has overlapped with another designer. West made waves last season when he ignored the pre-set fashion calendar and scheduled his show in the same time slot as several other designers, hours away from any other scheduled NYFW show.
With almost every fashionista showing off their ‘Yeezys’ on Instagram, Kanye West is here to stay.
UPDATE: Kanye West will move his show after CFDA disapproval.
Steven Kolb, president and CEO of the CFDA released the following statement Friday morning,
“Kanye called me personally to let me know that he had no intention of showing on top of another designer, and was unaware that there was a conflict. He explained that once he realized Marchesa was in the time slot, he immediately looked at alternative options. The CFDA appreciates Kanye’s outreach and effort, and we look forward to working with him far in advance to integrate Yeezy into the schedule in seasons to come.”
West’s Yeezy Season 5 show has now been moved two hours earlier at the recommendation of the CFDA.
